Where we are

The Abism, El Paují

El Paují is located in a remote area at the border of the spectacular National Park Gran Sabana, in the frontiers region with the rainforest of Amazonas, Brazil and Guyana.
This is the region of the impresionate, ancient table mountains (tepui).

In the Park you find some of the most famous touristic highlights in Venezuela: the Angel Fall, the worlds highest waterfall and the tepuy mount Roraima, the highest of the about 90 table mountains in the region.
The nearest city is Santa Elena de Uairén at about 80 km east of El Paují.
Due to the altitude of about 1000 meter the climate is moderate, with temperatures of 16° to 25° C on average the whole year and two main seasons: dry season (summer) from october to april and rainy season (winter) from november to may.

Pozo Esmeralda, El Paují

The village is surrounded by nature of unique beauty: rivers with impressionate waterfalls and cascades, natural swimming pools, virgin forest and savannah.
Founded about 50 years ago by indians of the Taurepán group and workers who where constructing the road between Santa Elena and the miner´s village Ikaberú, El Paují changed its character forever when in the 70´s of the past century young urban people arrived, supported by the government with intention to populate the border to Brazil. These young people were searching an alternative and basic life based on connection with nature.
Nowadays El Paují is a village of about 250 inhabitants where different interests and forms of life are met, the one of the Taurepán, the indian group, the miners and the "criollos".
